Hello ho ho!
Happiest holidays to all of you fine and friendly people. It's been a year of big travel all around the world and I've really enjoyed meeting and re-connecting with all of you who read this. Ok even those of you who don't ;) I'm writing now from Shanghai where I've been for 2 1/2 weeks playing at the new Jazz At Lincoln Center club with my regular quintet which has been a really awesome experience. Musically we are growing through challenging material; we focused on Chet Baker our first week, an iconic record by Sarah Vaughan featuring Clifford Brown last week and we'll be swinging out the rest of the run with my Brass & Belles show of horn/vocal duos of the big band era. We played the first ever swing dance in the club which was a huge success! I even celebrated my birthday (shoutout to Sagittarians!) by eating bizarre foods with friends. This trip has definitely made us tighter as a band and I'm pretty sure we all still like each other too :)
LAST CHANCE: We're in the closing days of the Pledge Music Campaign, so take this last chance to hear my next album first by pre-ordering OR consider gifting it to a friend!
HECK YEAH TAKE ME TO THE PLEDGE MUSIC PAGE
Looking ahead I'm thrilled to share I have two sets at Winter Jazz Fest this year which takes place in downtown New York and is an excellent showcase for upcoming projects. Saturday January 5th at Zinc Bar my group is playing our signature style of old meets new (including the new album material) and the following week Sisterhood of Swing reunites at the Sheen Center January 12th.
Good news! The New York Hot Jazz Camp is happy to announce scholarships for up to 7 students aged 18-28 years old! More information can be found
In the education vein, in January I'll be starting a stint with schools in Cape May, New Jersey, as their Artist in Residence, visiting a handful of times for workshops and clinics. They have an annual festival in November where I'll perform with both the student ensembles and my own group which will be a ton of fun. Looking forward to meeting these students!
