🎶November News: Album pre-order, City Winery Boston + more!
Hope you've been well! I've been buzzing around like a bee and I let it show on Halloween :) I'm thrilled to report my band recorded in the beginning of October and it sounds AMAAAAAZING... Mostly original tunes, I would describe it as gritty bluesy funky sounds inspired by Tom Waits, Duke Ellington and Memphis Soul.
Producing original music is a challenge for me because 1. you're pouring your guts out sharing inner thoughts, feelings and stories and 2. it simply doesn't exist until you create it, so there are no rules of how it's supposed to sound or what it's supposed to sound like. Equal parts freedom and risk, you open yourself to criticism but it also can bring back even greater connections with like-minded people. As I say to students, you have to embrace the uncomfortable in order to grow so this is why I continue to push myself.. to learn.
SO all that said, join me on this next adventure into the unknown by checking out the Pledge Music Campaign which is raising the funds to make that part of the process less uncomfortable :) I've just extended it so I can offer fun holiday gifts like video e-cards, holiday songs etc. or you could gift a pre-order of the album. Each pledge gets at minimum a digital download to hear it first!
In the next few weeks I'll be with my band in BOSTON @ CITY WINERY and NEWTOWN PA before we head overseas for 3 full weeks to SHANGHAI to play at Jazz At Lincoln Center's new club. This will surely be a wild adventure and I will take pics! :)
Finally, I am fortifying my need and love for foundation through some essential projects:
- The NY Hot Jazz Camp is this close to becoming a non-profit to fully mobilize scholarship efforts. Find out more at www.nyhotjazzcamp.com
- I am busy coaching Teaching Artists at the Louis Armstrong House Museum on interactive activities for youth that visit the house to greater understand and experience Louis' legacy and lessons.
- I'm once again performing concerts for Jazz at Lincoln Center that focus on jazz and social history. Right now we are teaching Democracy, and I wholeheartedly urge everyone in the US who is eligible to exercise their right to VOTE TODAY!!
Peace and love and jazz and plungers,
